Here we all are another day into 2017, and it feels as though the world is filled with more hate and sadness. My body has been feeling heavy this week, and so before hitting my mat I opted for a little Netflix and lunch. I was stalling.
I was looking for a documentary, maybe something yoga adjacent. There it was, recommended for me, The Kindness Diaries. It is a series about Leon Logothetis, travelling the world depending only on the kindness of strangers. With the bonus of being only 20 minutes per episode, it fit my lunch (stalling) plan perfectly. I don’t want to give too much away here/ only watched the first episode, but lets just say there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. I could devour the whole series before dinner, but I want to savor it.
As I sat on the couch a blubbering mess, I was compelled to reflect on how many acts of kindness and compassion are not only easy but free. From complimenting a stranger on her cute shoes, to calling a friend or loved one and having a real conversation, little actions can go a long way. It made me think about what I can do today to provide a little light to those around me.
I’d love to hear everyone’s ideas for simple acts of kindness, maybe the best ones you have given or received. Who knows, you might just make someone’s day!
